Łętownia Clean-up 2025
What an extraordinary Saturday — a day when we showed what community really means!
In the days before our Saturday event, pupils and teachers from the John Paul II Primary School in Łętownia, together with the Municipality of Jordanów, cleaned the area along the main road through the village and the village centre, setting a wonderful example of care for our shared surroundings.
Thanks to their earlier work, we could focus on less frequented places: often forgotten, sometimes hidden in the shadows of history and everyday life.
- In Zarębki, we cleaned the Gąszcz area and the surroundings of the main road, a particularly busy place.
- Cub scouts and scouts took care of the route from Folwark towards Biwak. They cleared the verges, the campfire site and the area around the stone and cross commemorating the death of Łętownia’s landowner, Władysław Kempner.
- The firefighters took on a difficult but much-needed task: clearing an illegal rubbish dump near the dam and the areas inhabited by Łętownia’s beavers.
- There was also work to do in the village centre, around the church, from the forge to the fire station — the heart of Łętownia deserved special attention.
- The stretch of road towards Naprawa, up to the village boundary, was particularly moving. In the woods on both sides of the road are mass graves from the great famine and epidemic following the Galician slaughter, mainly dating from 1847–1848. Near the symbolic roadside shrine lie victims of the most tragic episode in Łętownia’s history, which claimed hundreds of lives. By cleaning this place, we paid them a quiet, deeply felt tribute.
At the end of our shared clean-up, we happily celebrated our achievement around a campfire, enjoying sausages and inspiring conversations. It was a time full of smiles, mutual support and a sense of community.
🎖 Special thanks go to:
- The firefighters of OSP Łętownia for safely transporting the waste — we could not have done it without you — and for their difficult, responsible work in the most demanding and dangerous areas. Thank you for putting so much heart into our community.
- The cub scouts and scouts for your commitment. Thank you for joining our initiative on a day off school. Your energy and willingness to help inspired us all!
- The Municipal Office in Jordanów for providing bags and gloves and arranging collection of the gathered waste.
On behalf of Stowarzyszenie Gromada Łętownia, our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who answered our invitation: residents, families with children, young people, older residents and association members. Every pair of hands mattered. What we achieved together was beautiful, necessary and encouraging.
